Nanny jobs - an insider's guide to expected salaries

According to a survey carried out last year, different types of child care services will pay a varied amount so depending on your level of experience, qualifications and role will depend on your salary. Where you live will also make a difference as people in large cities like London will be paid more than carers based in the north of the country. If you live with a family in central London then expect to be paid about £24,000 and for same area but with your own accommodation you should receive £33,000 with rural areas dropping the salary by more than £10,000.

An au pair can expect to get approximately £80 per week as accommodation and food will be provided but nanny jobs will vary so these guidelines are not set in stone. A mother’s helper should get about £50 per week while a baby sitter will be paid per hour of about £4-£5. Maternity nurses can expect to get between £600 and £800 depending on how many babies they will be dealing with and over time money should always be agreed on and included in the contract to avoid any problems. The best way to determine what you should be paid is to take into account your qualifications and experience, the hours you will be doing and the duties that are expected of you as well as where you will be based in the country and whether you are living with the family.
